Since 1998, the yearbook »sushi« has been conceived, designed and produced by a host of different student groups from Academy of Art and Design Offenbach (HfG). The Magazine documented the Young Talent Competition of the Art Directors Club Germany. Each team devises a new “sushi” concept, something that is unique to the magazine. It is devoured mostly by the upcoming young designers themselves as well as the agency’s talent scouts. sushi is an experimental kit that knows only one enemy – the printing deadline. It also features guests from abroad, including South America, the US, Sweden, Russia, Japan, and China. It contains contributions from writers, photographers, illustrators, theologians, paparazzi, and other such experienced hands.

sushi 12 is all about new things.

That’s simple. New is everywhere. And where is it not? New is always. And when is it not? New is new but when is it old? Maybe it’s not so simple after all. For this reason, sushi 12 is inviting a number of different people who have something to say about new topics – whether big or small. And others who do something new. The winners of the ADC Young Designers Competition are obviously included, featuring award-winning semester works, outstanding degrees, and convincing practical works.

sushi 12 is all about new things. That’s Chinese designers we have never seen before. Plus a reflection on what is promised by what is new and if new can also deliver this promise, why we devote so much attention to it, how it benefits us and where it comes from. Obviously only the very latest in what is new.
